ABOUT ME

Parallel to my dance activities, I graduated in visual medias in September 2013 from the Academy of Media arts Cologne (Kunsthochschule für Medien) where my studies focused on scenography, applied visual arts and documentary filmmaking.

My work combines the accumulated knowledge of body, space and time with the visual arts, which leads me into creating works that take advantage of the media arts in order to present the human subject from the most captivating perspective.

In both my practices: dance and media arts, there is a strong focus on the creation process, I have an ardor for research and the quest of details: research becoming practice. Practice as research.

MICHAELDOUGLAS KOLLEKTIV

The MichaelDouglas Kollektiv is built around a core group of dance artists that continually investigates the intricacies of collective creation.

Founded in 2009 by former ‘pretty ugly tanz köln’ dancers and choreographers Michael Maurissens and Douglas Bateman the kollektiv engages with the practical and theoretical aspects of collaboration. Performing and researching the processes of what collective creation means.

Working with architectural thinking tools proposed by collaborator and architect Michael Steinbusch it has developed a network of production and dissemination formats and housed in the Quartier am Hafen.
